Warwas announces House 7B candidacy
"This is one of four seats needed to flip the House and have meaningful dialogue, not one-party rule,” Warwas said. “I’m going to do a lot of door knocking. Probably a historic amount of door knocking because to me, you go where people are to meet them and win them over. To me, this is not a game. I refuse to be a filler on a ballot. I’ll work harder at this than anything I’ve done in my life."
Longtime Iron Range union member to run as a Republican against DFLer Dave Lislegard
Cal Warwas says he wants to represent District 7B at the State Capitol because he believes the “the DFL Trifecta, led by Twin Cities legislators, has advanced an agenda that is way out-of-step with Range values and priorities.”
“As a lifelong Iron Ranger, I have a passion for seeing our people get opportunities to stay here and raise their families, and giving our kids hope for the future and a home on the Range,” Warwas said in a press statement this week announcing his campaign. “I’m deeply concerned about the hard-left turn our state politics have taken, leaving most rural Minnesotans without a voice, especially as it pertains to skyrocketing energy costs, parental and Second Amendment rights, and the increase of taxes and fees everywhere you look.”
Twenty-five years in, I’m not only planning to be a “lifer” — I’m a proud union miner who hopes to continue in this strain. At 45 years-old, I’ve invested over half my life in the industry. It has given me all you have read about in these previous lines, built my homes, and supported my family of nine kids (just nine); and all of that has been on one income. We are not rich, but we are comfortable.
My path is not one that everyone has the chance to travel, but if you get the opportunity to work in mining I would strongly advise you to go for it. If possible, absolutely pursue an education with mining in mind. It’s no secret that we are blessed to live in this area and that this industry is the backbone and provider of most of what exists on the Iron Range.
All of this is why I’ve come to embrace, so strongly, our biggest local industry. Yes, I get involved in other local causes, but if you see me at an event you can bet that I’m there, at least in part, to help secure and promote our shared interest and future success in the mining industry.
